Jayce Boyd is a Cantonment, FL native who attended JM Tate High School where he was a 4-sport standout in baseball, football, basketball, and golf. He was elected to the 2009 Tate High School Hall of Fame. During his high school career Boyd was an all-star in football and baseball and was voted Wendy’s High School Heisman. Most importantly, he was selected by Coach Joe Murphy as the FCA award winner for his 2009 golf season. Boyd was drafted in the 2009 MLB draft by the Texas Rangers in the 19th round and chose to attend Florida State University on a baseball scholarship.

During his three-year letterman career at FSU, Boyd was an outstanding hitter with a career .349 average, 254 hits, 140 runs, 53 doubles, 20 home runs and 160 RBIs. He batted at least .326 all three years and in 2012 earned 1st Team All-ACC, 1st Team All-American from American Baseball Coaches Association and Perfect Game, 2nd Team from Collegiate Baseball and National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association. Boyd helped lead FSU to the CWS in 2010 (5th place) and 2012 (3rd place) and Super Regionals in 2011. Boyd was selected to participate in the prestigious Cape Cod summer league during his Freshman and Sophomore years with the Orleans Firebirds where he was voted the Castleberry Award winner. He was then drafted in the 6th round by the New York Mets in 2012 and started his professional journey.

Boyd quickly rose through the ranks of the Mets system after the Florida State alumnus was named a Mid-Season All-Star in the South Atlantic League and a Mets Organization Sterling Award winner after he hit .330 with nine home runs, 83 RBI, 29 doubles, and a .410 on-base percentage over 123 combined games. He reached the Triple-A level with the Las Vegas 51’s in both 2015 and 2016. That included a .297 average with a career-high 11 home runs, 46 RBI, and a .371 on-base percentage over 92 games.

After a thoracic outlet syndrome diagnosis and surgery in 2013, Boyd struggled to return to form, cutting his playing career short. He is now residing in Tampa, FL with his wife Shawna and son Evan. They are members of Grace Family Church, and he is teaching Bible along with being the head golf coach, middle school baseball manager, and varsity baseball assistant coach at Cambridge Christian School. Having a heart to disciple young adults and share his experience with other driven athletes, Boyd is excited to join John Melvin Christian College and expand his role in the years to come.
